TOS Crew Review: Act Inc.: Discover Online Career Planning Program

I always tell my children that they can be anything God wants them to be, when they ask "Mommy, what will I be when I grow-up?" I tell them this because God has equipped them with interests and skills to be used for His purpose, but sometimes knowing what those skills and interests are and what type of job they would be best suited to is hard to discover.

I have five children ranging from age 3 to 13, and each of them are so very different. One is a comedian, another very nurturing, I have a child who is very artistic, and one who loves to read, and has a head for science and technology, the 3 year old we are still studying, but she loves creative play, books and puzzles.

My oldest is 13 and it seems that college is a long way off, but I know that it will creep up on me, and I want to prepare him the best I can for his future. With this in mind my son and I went to the Discover Online Career Planning Program website to take the career planning assessment test. What would we find out about his skills, and abilities? Would it tell us something other than what we already knew about his interests? We were about to find out.

We logged onto the website, read all the instructions, and then clicked onto the first assessment: the Interest Inventory, and what did we discover? His interests are in the Technology and Science Fields. Next, he took the Abilities Inventory, his results were narrowed down to Things and Ideas. Finally, he took the Values Inventory: Medical Diagnosis and Treatment, and Engineering and Technologies were listed.

Yes, I found out I know my child, and what he would be good at. He wants to work with computers, he wants to be a Computer Engineer. So I guess I've got my work cut out for me, math and science is not my gifts, but this homeschool momma will do her best to continue to give him the opportunities to discover what God has planned for him.

If you also have a child who is in Junior and Senior High School/age group and want to help guide him/her to the career that is best suited for that child, you might like to consider using the Discover Online Career Planning Program with them. It was fun and easy to do, and we found the results to be accurate for him.

If you are interested in this program it is available for $19.95 for 3 month, and $24.95 for a 6 month license to use, with access to the Teacher's Guide as well.

  1. Nice review. I didn't get to do this one. It sounds like it would be helpful for my son.

  2. Thanks Kristen. Websites are harder for me to review, but we had fun doing it together.
