Sweet Sanctuary by Kim Vogel Sawyer~~A Litfuse Publicity Group Book Review, Blog Tour and Giveaway

My Review:

Kim Vogel Sawyer is one of my very favorite authors, and when I pick up one of her books to read I expect to find realistic characters, believable problems and the Gospel to be gentility woven through the pages. Her newest book Sweet Sanctuary is no exception.

Lydia Eldredge was entrusted with the care of her best friend’s son, Nicky, after she died in childbirth. Her friend’s goal was to keep her son safe from his morphine addicted father, whose goal is to sell his son in order to feed his addiction. Lydia is determined to honor her friends’ wishes and raise Nicky as her own, and to keep him from his father.

When Lydia's father decided that he must take matters into his own hands, he wrote to Lydia’s old friend Dr. Micah Hatcher telling him to marry his daughter so she wouldn't have to raise their child alone. Micah traveled from Queens (NYC) to Boston determined to settle this misunderstanding, once he was there and he heard the whole story about her son, he understood the situation and encouraged Lydia to pray for answers and to tell the truth about Nicky’s parentage; knowing this would be the only way she would be able to legally adopt him.

After a short visit, Micah returned to Queens where he runs a clinic for the city’s immigrants. He also had another reason to return quickly, living in this part of the city allowed him to help his brother, Jeremiah, who lives in Europe to transport extra special “packages” to their destination. While thinking about this Micah also wonders if Lydia would agree with his involvement in this activity.

Needing the midwives’ record of Nicky’s birth Lydia travels to NYC in order to find her and to request her help. She also asks Micah for help in locating the midwife and in finding her a place to stay and ends up staying in a vacant apartment in the building where Micah lives. When Micah leaves in the night, she decides to follow him, and wonders why Micah is so secretive all of a sudden.

If you enjoy Kim’s stories than I am certain that the characters in Sweet Sanctuary will find their way into your heart. And if you are unfamiliar with Kim’s books this would be a great one to start with. Kim ended the story in a way that the reader is able to imagine what happens next in the characters lives, which I enjoy doing, but if she were to write a sequel I would be first in line to read it.

**I am sorry if this review seems different from my other book reviews, it was difficult to write it without giving away too much of the story.

About the Book:

A Story of Hope and Love Set Against the Backdrop of World War II

Lydia Eldredge longs to provide sanctuary for her young son, Nicky. But a constant threat comes from Nicky’s drug-addicted father, who wants the boy and seems willing to do whatever it takes to get him.

Dr. Micah Hatcher faithfully serves the immigrant population of Queens, New York. But under cover of darkness, he has a secret mission that challenges everything he thought he wanted out of life.

When Lydia and Micah’s paths cross, they are suddenly wrapped up in each other’s callings. Together, they seek a refuge of safety–for Nicky, for themselves, and for the needy people God puts into their lives. Amid turmoil and discord, can hope and love prevail?
