A Season of Change (Seasons in Pinecraft #1) by Lynette Sowell~~A Litfuse Publicity Group Book Review, Blog Tour and A Kindle Fire HDX Giveaway

A Visit to Pinecraft, Florida

"It's hard to know how much compromise is too much, and what's not a big issue at all. Most of us who aren't Amish could argue all day about what's a compromise to our faith, and how 'separate' from the world we should be. For them, being separate comes from the inside as well as out." -Natalie Bennett
A Season of Change is set in the Plain community of Pinecraft, Florida. Where both Amish and Mennonites vacation, and some live and/or retire there as well. And it is where we meet Jacob Miller and Natalie Bennett.

Natalie Bennett is a former aerial silks artist for the circus and now teaches kids and adults at the local circus school. She also visits the areas hospitals dressed as Bubbles the Clown to entertain sick children and their families. She has recently discovered that her mother had been raised Amish and when she meets Jacob and his family during one of her hospital visits she is drawn to them.

Jacob Miller is a father and recent widower who is feeling pressured by his family to remarry. Only he doesn't feel drawn toward the Amish girl that they are trying to convince him to marry. Although he does feel drawn to Natalie Bennett, mainly because of the way that she has with his children, and how they feel about her; but because she isn't Amish he can't even consider her to be his wife. Or can he...

I enjoyed this story very much, and while the setting was different than in most Amish novels, it worked very well. The characters were realistic, and faced real trials. I also enjoyed the time I spend in Pinecraft, and even though I have never been there the scenes where described so well that I could picture the city as I walked through Pinecraft with the characters. I look forward to visiting Pinecraft again when I read the next book in Seasons in Pinecraft series A Path Made Plain.

About the Book:

Book One in the NEW Seasons of Pinecraft series | A Season of Change

An Amish widower finds love in unexpected places.

Amish widower Jacob Miller believes it was a mistake to visit the Amish village of Pinecraft for winter vacation, especially after his daughter is struck by a car. Stranded in Sarasota until his daughter recovers, Jacob grows increasingly wary of events that unfold in his unfamiliar surroundings—including the strange curiosity of Englischer Natalie Bennett.

Natalie never thought her circus career as an aerial silks artist would end with a blown-out knee at the age of 25. She also never knew her late mother had a secret—that she was once Amish.

When Natalie meets the Millers at the Sarasota hospital, she is attracted to their warm hospitality and simple ways—and soon wonders if they can help her find her mother’s family. As Jacob and Natalie fall in love, their worlds collide. Will their differences tear them apart? Or will their love be strong enough to blend their clashing cultures?

Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio by Serena Miller~~A Litfuse Publicity Group Book Review, Blog Tour and Giveaway

Love and Mystery in Sugarcreek

Rachel Troyer, lives in the middle of Sugarcreek, Ohio's Amish community. Although she is not Amish, her father was, before he chose to leave the Amish faith. After she was left orphaned when she was eleven years old, her three Amish aunts (Bertha, Lydia, and Anna) had taken her in and raised her. Now an adult, she is a police officer in the small town of Sugarcreek, and feels that it is her responsibility to take care of her elderly aunts. The problem is, they are not cooperating with her plan. They own and run a bed and breakfast style inn and they do not understand why Rachel insists they stop taking in guests.
After an accident leaves Aunt Bertha injured, Rachel insists no more guests, and they agree, but because they are strong believers in Hebrews 13:2 (KJV)  -- Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. -- they insist that they will continue to provide shelter to those that they feel that the Lord has brought to their door.

When Joe Mathews and his young son, Bobby, appear on their doorstep they desperately seem to need the help of the aunts. They allow them to stay in one of the cabins, much to Rachel's consternation. In exchange for room and board,  Joe makes himself very useful, by doing much of the work that has been needing to be done. Because of this the aunts ask him to stay and continue to work for them.

Rachel feels uneasy about Joe, and senses that something is not right about him, but just can't put her finger on what it is. Although she intends to find out. Her investigation turns up nothing and as she spends time with him she discovers that she likes Joe and his son. When she finally figures out who Joe really is, she knows her world is going to be turned upside down, and to make matters worse she has fallen in love with Joe.

The book is full of forgiveness, love, hope, romance and mystery. There were even a few surprises thrown in. Now that I have finished reading the book, I really would like to see the movie.

About the Book:

Guideposts Books is excited to announce the premiere of a new film based on the book Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio (Summerside Press) by Serena Miller.

A mysterious outsider casts a long shadow on Ohio’s Amish country. Policewoman Rachel Troyer has always looked after her three elderly Amish aunts, proprietors of a farmhouse inn near Sugarcreek, Ohio. The idyllic town is popular with tourists, who come to sample its famous Amish goods. But one thing is clear to Rachel – Joe Matthews is no tourist. When the bearded stranger lands on her aunts’ doorstep, begging shelter for himself and his young son, Rachel is suspicious.

Will she be able to uncover Joe’s secrets despite her aunts’ – and her own – growing affection for him?

Hopeful by Shelley Shepard Gray ~~A Litfuse Publicity Group Book Review, Blog Tour and Book Giveaway

 hopeful-e1387259966426

A Hope That Doesn't Give Up

Hopeful is the the first book in the Return to Sugarcreek series by Shelley Shepard Gray. It is also the first book that I have read by this author. I would definitely choose to read one of her books again.

Miriam Zehr has loved Junior Beiler for as long as she can remember. She hopes and dreams that some day he’ll see her for who she is and love her too.
When it finally seems that Junior has taken an interest in her, Junior dashes that hope by asking her to introduce him to Mary Kate Hershberger, who is their community's school teacher and Miriam's best friend.

Although it is not easy for her, Miriam agrees to help Junior, even though she knows how difficult it will be to see the two of them together.

Even though it seems that Miriam isn’t going to get her turn at love, marriage and family she still carries that hope in her heart.

When I first started to read Hopeful I wasn't sure that I was going to like the story because I had a hard time connecting with the characters. But as I continued to read I found that I was truly enjoying the book, even reading it well into the night. I really enjoyed the time I spent getting to know the characters and now look forward to the next book in the Return to Sugarcreek series, Thankful. (The first chapter of Thankful is provided at the end of the book.)

About the Book:

Return to Sugarcreek, Book One

In the Amish town of Sugarcreek, love comes in many forms. But will it come at all for Miriam?

Miriam Zehr has worked at the Sugarcreek Inn longer than she cares to admit. The restaurant is a favorite of town residents as well as the many tourists who come to taste the famous Amish fare. Though she always tries to have a smile for every customer, deep down Miriam knows something’s missing: a family of her own.

Miriam has never felt particularly beautiful, especially because she’s always been a bit heavier than other girls her age. When Junior, the man she’s pined for all her life, suddenly seeks her out, she’s thrilled to be noticed . . . until she realizes he’s only asking her to help get the attention of Mary Kathryn Hershberger, her pretty friend.

If Miriam helps Junior court Mary Kathryn, she’ll get to spend a lot of time with him, but she might lose him in the process. Are these few stolen moments worth a lifetime of sacrifice? Is Miriam right to even hope for the life she dreams of?

The Calling by Suzanne Woods Fisher~~A Litfuse Publicity Group Book Review, Blog Tour with Six Chances to win an iPad, Kindle, or Nook !

Another Wonderful Visit to The Inn at Eagle Hill

The Calling is the second book in The Inn at Eagle Hill series by Suzanne Wood's Fisher; the first was The Letters. Although this book can do well as a stand-alone, I suggest that you read the first book in the series first. This will help you get to know the characters, and to understand the plot better. I enjoyed reading The Letters so much that when The Calling was available for review I requested it right away. I was not disappointed.

The first book in The Inn at Eagle Hill series, The Letters, focused on newly widowed mother of five, Rose Schrock, who needing a way to support her family turned her home in Stoney Ridge into The Inn at Eagle Hill. The Calling turns the spotlight on Rose's step-daughter Bethany, who is struggling with coming to terms with the death of her father and her brother's disappearance. She is also dealing with the break-up between her and Jake Hertzler; as well as trying to figure out what to do about Jimmy Fisher!

I also enjoyed catching up with the other characters and meeting someone new to Stony Ridge. Bethany's younger sister, Mim, has secretly become the columnist "Mrs. Miracle" for the local paper. The youngest Schrock's, Luke and Sammy are still full of energy. I also enjoyed finding out more about Naomi, Galen, and especially the five elderly sisters, Sylvia, Ella, Fannie, Lena, and Ada. Geena Spence, the newest guest at the inn, is a youth pastor who is trying to figure out what God wants her to do next.

I loved how these characters interacted with each other bringing Stoney Ridge to life. I also loved the suspense and mystery surrounding the story! It kept me guessing as the story progressed.

I look forward to the next book in the series The Revealing which is due in July 2014.

About the Book:

Book Two in the Inn at Eagle Hill series.

Bestselling author Suzanne Woods Fisher delivers her trademark twists, turns, and tender romance in this delightful and exciting visit to the deceptively quiet community of Stoney Ridge.

Twenty-year-old Bethany Schrock is restless. Her love life has derailed, her faith hangs by a thread, and she is spending the incredibly hot summer days wading through a lifetime’s accumulation of junk at the home of five ancient Amish sisters. About the only thing that holds her interest is the spirited and dangerously handsome Jimmy Fisher–and he seems bent on irritating her to no end.

When the sly old sisters and a guest at the Inn get Bethany involved in running the local soup kitchen and starting a community garden, she suddenly finds herself wondering, Shootfire! How did that happen? Despite her newfound purposefulness, a gnawing emptiness about a childhood mystery continues to plague her. Encouraged by Jimmy Fisher, she will seek out the answers she craves–and uncover a shocking secret that will break her heart, heal it, and point her to love.

Julie Klassen’s “The Dancing Master” giveaway, “All Things Jane” webcast 1/23 and Book Review

 An Intriguing Regency

I have been a fan of Julie Klassen ever since I read The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, so I may be a little biased when I say The Dancing Master is another must read, and I am placing it on my must share shelf.

So why do I recommend Julie's newest book, you ask...Intrigue. The plot had so many twists and turns, and every time I thought I had everything figured out, the story would take another turn proving me wrong. I enjoyed that very much!

Alec Valcourt and Julia Midwinter are complex characters who continued to draw me further into the story. There were others who also made me keep turning pages well into the night like John Desmond, Aurora Valcourt, as well as,  James, Patience and Walter Allen. These secondary characters helped bring the story to life and added more dimension to Alec and Julia's story.

There are many themes which are present throughout the story, but grace was the one that shined the brightest, it is something that we all find ourselves needing from time to time.  This message is so strong that your heart will be reminded of God’s great love that is so wonderfully woven throughout the story.

About the Book:

Finding himself the man of the family, London dancing master Alec Valcourt moves his mother and sister to remote Devonshire, hoping to start over. But he is stunned to learn the village matriarch has prohibited all dancing, for reasons buried deep in her past.

Alec finds an unlikely ally in the matriarch’s daughter. Though he’s initially wary of Julia Midwinter’s reckless flirtation, he comes to realize her bold exterior disguises a vulnerable soul–and hidden sorrows of her own.

Julia is quickly attracted to the handsome dancing master–a man her mother would never approve of–but she cannot imagine why Mr. Valcourt would leave London, or why he evades questions about his past. With Alec’s help, can Julia uncover old secrets and restore life to her somber village…and to her mother’s tattered heart?

Filled with mystery and romance, The Dancing Master brings to life the intriguing profession of those who taught essential social graces for ladies and gentlemen hoping to make a “good match” in Regency England.
